Scottie Scheffler placed a last round 67 to finish two for Robert Macintyre, who lost a lead of four shots on the last day; Scheffler leads the FedExcup classification for Rory Mcilroy

Scottie Scheffler: Yes, it was a tough day outside. The greens became really difficult to draw there towards the end, and it was a challenging day.

I started four shots back, but came there pretty quickly in the tournament on the front nine and did a lot of good things outside and would have liked a few fewer mistakes, but in general a great battle completely. Has remained well patient and carried out when needed.

Q. How did you play that chip at 17? What have you seen? What did you try to do and what would you have been happy with realistic?

Scottie Scheffler: I missed it on the right side. I think that’s the most important thing. It was a chip that we practiced. I knew how fast it was, and actually just tried to get it on the green. It was a sort of Bowl -pin there back to where everything that acts to, and I knew it would just be very fast, and do my best to get it down there and to give myself a good look for par. When it came out, it came out how we wanted to and then it started to break and it started to look better, and yes, yes, it started.

Q. The course underwent large renovations since 2021. Can you talk through the changes and how you felt it played?

Scottie Scheffler: I think it certainly played more difficult this week than a few years ago. Greens had absolutely a lot of pitch. Yes, the golf course has changed considerably. I think they are trying to make it harder, which I clearly think that the winning score this year was much different than a few years ago, and I think they have reached their mission in that sense.

Q. On 17, to have such a moment and you are still so close, it was not long ago, but that is one of that iconic, oh, my God, long -term kind of memories happen. Do you feel that, do you feel that? Do you know that when it happens?

Scottie Scheffler: I knew it was an important shot in the golf tournament. Bob made a nice birdie on 16 and I knew it would be a fight until the end. Starting on the day four shots back, Bob made some mistakes early in the round, but I knew he would not make much more as the day progressed. He fought well all day without his best things.

When that chip enters, you know it is a fairly cool shot, but the job is not long afterwards. Bob could be just as easy to chip in it, and you don’t know what’s going to happen, so you have to stay focused and have done a good job to get the fairway and the green on 18 and gave myself a pretty stress -free par.

Q. Of course you have cromie on the bag; I know that Ted is clear where he should be, but strange not to have Ted in those big moments, as he has always been the last few years?

Scottie Scheffler: Yes, it was certainly different. But Cromie did great. He is a man I can trust. He is one of Ted’s good friends.

I would just say it’s as simple as that is. Cromie is a man who works hard. He does his preparatory work and he was an easy guy for me to trust there.

I felt that we did well to talk and stay patient by our photos and keep doing the right things, even if things look a little squirrel on the back nine. We have remained well focused and continue to make shots with the right goals. Exclosed the tournament nicely.

Q. Do you feel that you spoke less than with Ted or felt the same in the cadence and how often did you go there?

Scottie Scheffler: That is something I have to think about later. In general I am not a man who talks a ton on the golf course. Cromie, I think, is really doing a good job to really be even keel. He is not a man who will respond overly about something. He did very well by just staying keel all week and a bit insensitive to the pressure of a final round, and he really did well.

Q. Mark just said 18 victories; Does that sound like a lot to you?

Scottie Scheffler: Yes. I mean, it has been a nice piece in recent years and I have done some really good things. It is nice to get the results of a lot of hard work. That is not something I think about every day. I try to approach everything week after week, and when you really get it, just day after day.

This week was a good week. It was a battle all the way. Fortunately to sit here.

Q. You said yesterday that you were not really happy with your ball-tricking and the opportunities you gave yourself. Did you feel that you did that better today? It seemed like you gave yourself a lot of looks in the first 11 holes.

Scottie Scheffler: Yes, I was definitely sharper with the irons today. In this game you are always looking a little more out of yourself, so I can think of a few that I wanted me to have hit a little sharper. But I hit some really beautiful photos – really good wedge in 7, good shot in 8, good wedge in 11.

Probably outside the chip-in at 17, the shot of the day was probably 15 who came out of that bunker. That was a very important shot in the tournament, one that I think will fly a bit under the radar.

Just before I had made a sloppy three-putt on the hole to let Bob back in the tournament. A bit my leaders only brought back to one, and suddenly he touches it there about seven feet at 15, it is now a golf tournament. I stepped there and hit it in him to about six and a half foot and was able to give that putt.

I can’t tell you how difficult it was to draw these greens late in the day. It is clear that it is Bentgrass Greens, there is a few Spike brands and they have become very fast there. There is a lot of slope. So they were pretty challenging to put.

Q. Bob bogeys the first two, you Birdie the first, and after 5 you had a bit of control there. Do you have aware that it is a bit on the back foot and you have the chance to take advantage, or is it even more about performing your game?

Scottie Scheffler: Well, it’s always about performing my game, but I knew that I had to get off to a good start today and Bob gave me a few gifts early in the round.

Suddenly I went back from four to we were on the third tee and I am only one back, and suddenly it is so good, it is now a game. No more soft lead; It’s time to get it. We did some good things at the front nine there and then kept him there remotely on the rear nine.

Bob is a great player. I knew he asked what mistakes made, he would not continue to do that all day. He went to fight and claw his way back, what he did, and he should be proud of the fight he had this week, and it was a good fight there.

Q. Who did you beat Club at 15 from the bunker?

Scottie Scheffler: 8 iron.

Q. It seemed that you were standing on the edge – just like you hit the ball from about 6 to about 14 or 15, it seemed that you were about to pull away and did not. Let Bob stay a bit in it. I am curious if you felt that. I don’t imagine that this happens to you a lot, but how do you talk about it if you don’t get as much out of the round as you could and you make it tighter than it could be?

Scottie Scheffler: That is always frustrating when the rounds become – if you don’t get as much out of the round as you would hope. But I put myself in position and did the right things. I didn’t really feel that I was doing many things wrong. It was just very challenging outside of it.

I knew that if I continued to execute and remained patient, things would eventually go my way. Really, it all comes down to implementation. I think that sometimes in the course of such a round, if you don’t get the most out of it, it can be frustrating and then things can be a bit of snowball from there.

But remained well patient and executed when it really mattered.
