Cuban RHP Alieski Torres (18) has officially signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. Bonus deal: $200,000. He left Cuba in 2024 and progressed through the Chiqui Mejías academy in Bonao, Dominican Republic. His fastball sits 90-94 mph, with a chance to develop his slider and changeup.
With this signing, the Blue Jays are expected to have approximately $400,000 in bonus pool money remaining. Romero reported before the Seo June signing that they had approximately $2.1 million remaining. The last day they can sign free agents during this period is December 15, before the 2026 period begins on January 15, 2026. They will have to use this money because it will not carry over to the next season.
It’s also worth noting that the Blue Jays will deduct $500,000 from next year’s signing bonus pool as a result of signing Anthony Santander last season. Additionally, $1 million will be deducted from their 2027 bonus pool as a result of the signing of Dylan Cease last week.
Only time will tell if they will sign a new international prospect in the next week and a half.
