It has been a long, tired summer for Newcastle United and its fans, but in the end Premier League Football will return this weekend.
After one of the best seasons in our history Last campaign, which of course saw us win the 2025 Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League, things may not be so smooth or successful this time.
With uncertainty about the future of Alexander Isak, and each of the ‘Big Six’ that reinforces their own squadrons, the race for European football is especially as close as it came out last season.
Opta’s supercomputer has weighed before the start of the season, and although some of our fans may be happy with where we are predicted, there are a number of daring and frankly bizarre conversations of the data giants …
After running 10,000 simulations, as well as factoring in our current opportunities with the bookmakers, recent versions and summer transfer window, Opta Newcastle supports to finish 5th in the Premier League again.
With an expected points of 60.58, we are barely expected to be above Aston Villa (60.55), just as we did last season. Hopefully the superior coefficient of England should mean that we end up again in the Champions League places.
And interesting enough, or perhaps as expected, the top four from last season will remain the same: Liverpool is expected to retain their Premier League crown, although with a considerably lower scoring of around 73,33 points, followed by Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
Just before us, Chelsea is at 63.60 points, but after the windows had each team, they would return the top four race to be far away, far away from the rest of the chase package.
Last season, Opta rightly predicted that we would end up 5th, although it also said that the city of Pep Guardiola would be champion, and Manchester United would end up as 6th – so it may be wise to take some of these predictions with a pinch of salt, especially when they may not take the summer that every club has taken!
Although the top six remains virtually predicting rationally as most people would, along with the projected lower six, there are some strange calls from Opta about the rest of the competition table.
The Great is Brentford in the 11th after a devastating summer and loses their top scorer, captain and manager, while Spurs remains in 14th place despite the arrival of Thomas Frank and some impressive movements for Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha.
Manchester United, who spent this window nearly £ 200 million after their worst league campaign in decades, will not do much better. Opta lets them in to finish 12th, even though they don’t have European football this season to harm their schedule.
2025 Community Shield winners Crystal Palace are up in the relatively dizzying heights of the 7th place, although this can change dramatically if Ebereechi Eze is sold before the end of the window, with the future of Marc Guehi also uncertain and conference -competitive football to also manage without major arrivals.
