Binance has reached a major milestone by securing ISO/IEC 42001 certification for responsible governance in artificial intelligence. The certification places the crypto exchange among a group of early adopters of the structured and ethical governance of AI. As a result, this move strengthens confidence in AI support in crypto operations worldwide.
Binance sets new AI governance standard in crypto
Binance’s official press release states that the certification body A-LIGN has granted ISO/IEC 42001 approval. Meanwhile, formal accreditation was offered by the ANSI National Accreditation Board. Together, these approvals confirm Binance’s alignment with internationally recognized AI governance standards in the crypto markets.

ISO/IEC 42001 specifies requirements for an artificial intelligence management system. It focuses on transparency, accountability and ethical commitment throughout the AI lifecycle. Therefore, Binance must demonstrate controls related to the design, development, deployment, and continuous monitoring of AIs.

Binance said the certification applies to both internal use of the AI and customer-facing systems. Importantly, it requires weighing potential societal impacts before using AI tools. This makes it necessary to decide in advance about the AI-related risks for individuals and groups, for example.
Jimmy Su, the Chief Security Officer at Binance, emphasized the importance of structured supervision. He said responsible AI management can ensure systems behave as intended, even as they become increasingly complex. Accordingly, Binance has policies on risk management, data protection and continuous monitoring.
ISO 42001 integrates with Binance’s existing compliance framework
ISO/IEC 42001 also works with Binance’s existing ISO certifications. These include ISO 27001 – information security, ISO 27701 – privacy management, ISO 22301 – business continuity.
Richard Teng, Binance’s co-CEO, said the certification is part of a broader governance approach. He associated this achievement with Binance’s recent clearance by Abu Dhabi’s FSRA. Therefore, the governance of artificial intelligence (AI) is now consistent with the growth of the exchange’s global regulatory footprint.
Binance Chief Data Protection Officer Barry Young described how rare this feat was. He added that Binance is one of the few companies with simultaneous ISO certifications in security and privacy controls and AI management. This distinction serves to build trust in Binance, which has more than 300 million users.
Young further said that Binance uses the Privacy by Design methodology for AI adoption. This approach places data protection at the heart of the system development approach. As such, innovation continues without the risk of violating user privacy or ethical standards.
The certification also helps align with emerging regulations, as the EU AI Act Binance says its implementation of ISO/IEC 42001 is to help anticipate regulatory expectations. Consequently, governance frameworks are still flexible in nature as rules continue to change from one jurisdiction to another.
Industry observers point out that governing AI is becoming a critical issue for major crypto platforms. As the scope of automation increases, decision-making systems are increasingly subject to regulatory scrutiny. Binance’s certification may spur others in the industry to follow suit.
In short, Binance’s role in crypto governance is strengthened by ISO/IEC 42001. The certification is a sign of long-term commitment to being transparent and accountable. Ultimately, it can build institutional trust in AI-based Web3 infrastructure.
