The offsean of the New York Rangers can become even more complicated if they pursue Kirill Kaprizov, according to Elliote Friedman. During his last episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman hinted that the Rangers cannot in any way acquire Kaprizov and keep Artemi Panarin.
The NHL insider noticed that the Rangers would be one of the early favorites if Kaprizov’s time in Minnesota would come to an end. The latest conversations are that the Kaprizov camp is said to be of the opinion that there are larger deals – possibly in the range of $ 19-20 million – and the Rangers are mentioned as a possible landing site.
Kaprizov, however, is represented by Paul Theofanous, who also represents Rangers Star Artemi Panarin. That could create a difficult situation for New York, because the team may not be comfortable to bind to mega-deals for both players at the same time.
Not only that, but for the agent, this would be a situation in which he should tell one customer that they could have their favorite team, but not the other – assuming that both Kaprizov and Panarin consider the Rangers as a fit.
Friedman notes that although Kaprizov has not expressed a dissatisfaction with Minnesota, the potential for a historical contract has elsewhere that some teams carefully evaluate their gratings. If the Rangers push hard before Kaprizov, this could force difficult decisions with regard to the future of Panarin in the Big Apple, with a potential stir in the line -up. Would he leave? Would the Rangers exchange him?
It may be too early to talk about this, but that is what happens when Big News breaks about a player like Kaprizov and a team like the Rangers, who are often on every big discussion.
