Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Director Mo Bobat unveiled the team’s strategy not to offer on Mohammed Siraj during the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The director also stated that the retention of Siraj would have complicated RCB’s plans to sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the decision was taken after careful consideration.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru called a daring call before IPL 2025 by releasing different senior names. They had three rights to match cards, but only used one. The team brought Swapnil Singh back, but decided not to re -sign experienced stars such as Mohammed Siraj, Faf du Persis and Glenn Maxwell.
Siraj played seven seasons for the franchise. He is them on two highest wicket-maker with 83 scalp in 87 games. RCB did not make any bid for him during the Mega auction, nor did they exercise the RTM option. Gujarat Titans insured Siraj for a hefty £ 12.50 Crore.

In conversation with Cricbuzz, Mo Bobat said that the release of Mohammed Siraj was a strategic step to sign Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He added that retaining Siraj could have hindered the team’s plans from bringing in Bhuvi.
“We wanted to try Bhuvi and we had the feeling that Siraj would make it difficult to get Bhuvi,” Mo Bobat told Cricbuzz.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the fourth highest wicket-maker in India in T20Is. He has taken 90 wickets in 87 games with an average of 23.10 and a success rate of 6.96, including two five-wicket distance and three four-wicking distance. Since November 2022, however, he has no longer represented India in T20i’s.

Bhuvneshwar showed his consistency and lifespan in his IPL career. He took 198 Wickets in 190 games at an average of 27.33 with an economy of 7.69. The Pacer has taken two five-wicket distance and two four-wicket distance.
Kumar is the second highest wicket-maker in IPL history, with only Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 221 wickets, for him. It is worth noting that Chahal also played for the Bengaluru franchise in the past.

Mohammed Siraj played for the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025. He took 16 wickets in 15 games with an average of 32.93 and an economy of 9.24.
Siraj played for the last time a T20i match for India during the 2-0 series victory in Sri Lanka in July 2024, where he only claimed nine overs in three games.
The cricket player born in Hyderabad was part of the Indian victory campaign 2024 T20 in the West Indies and the US. Siraj played in the first half of the tournament and only took one wicket in three games. In particular, he was not included in the team for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
