On September 14, 2012, Rohit Sharma had shared a tweet with the text: “End of an era (45) and the start of a new one (77).” At the time it seemed insignificant, but more than ten years later, fans rediscovered it with a new meaning.

When India started preparing for the World Cup 2027, the selectors decided that it was time to bring new leadership. The team plays an ODI series of three games in Australia, from 19 October in Perth, with the second game in Adelaide on October 23 and the last game planned for October 25 in Sydney.
Rohit Sharma One of the most successful ODI captains in India
Rohit Sharma started his CaptainCy trip in Odis as a temporary skipper. He led the team for the first time during the Sri Lanka Tour 2017 in the absence of Virat Kohli and later led India to the Asia Cup title 2018 as a stand-in skipper. He officially received the full -time role in December 2021, to replace Kohli.
India enjoyed various remarkable performances during his term of office. The team lifted the Asia Cup in 2023 in Sri Lanka and went on to the ODI World Cup final, undefeated in the same year, but lost to Australia. Rohit, however, led India to the Champions Trophy 2025.
During his ODI official period from 2017 to 2025, Rohit held 56 matches, won 42 and lost 12, in addition to one draw and one no-prop. With a success rate of 75 percent, he is one of India’s most effective leaders of the white ball in modern times.
Shubman Gill is currently leading Team India in Tests
Earlier this year, Shubman Gill India led to a 2-2 draw in the five-test series in England. He led the team to an inner-and-140-ranked victory against the West Indies in the recently closed opening test at home.
Gill has also gained leadership experience in the IPL, where he has broken the Gujarat Titans (GT) for the past two seasons. He achieved 14 wins in 27 games. The experience will help him to take the lead over the 50-over team of India with the aim of building a team for the World Cup 2027.
The 25-year-old has scored 2,775 points in 55 ODIs on a remarkable average of 59.04, including a double one hundred and seven centuries. He also has a good track record against Australia, with 280 points from eight innings, including a century and a fifty.
