Manchester United recorded a dramatic 3-2 win over Fulham on Sunday thanks to Benjamin Sesko’s late Fergie time winner.
Old Trafford were stunned as the visitors scored twice in quick succession to draw the match to 2-2. The hosts had earlier taken a two-goal lead thanks to Casemiro and Matheus Cunha.
However, the players seem to believe that anything is possible under Michael Carrick, and for the second game in a row a substitute came on three minutes after the opposition’s equalizer.
The Slovenian has not started a match since Carrick’s arrival. He watched the entire Manchester derby from the bench and played a paltry nine minutes against Arsenal.
Benjamin Sesko produced magic despite limited minutes under Carrick
However, the 22-year-old didn’t let that stop him and produced a stunning twisting finish that will serve as a timely reminder to the interim head coach of his talents.
After the match, the Slovenian international was understandably on cloud nine, tellingly Air sports that he dreamed of scoring the winner for the Stretford End, and eventually that dream became a reality.
“That was incredible. To score at home and score the winner is incredible. That’s what I dreamed of and dreamed of being able to do. We all know as a team how important these results are.”
“We are in a great way at the moment and we just hope that we can continue to work so hard to win games. I am very happy that I could help the team. We can now continue our run.”
Playing with freedom under Carrick
Under Ruben Amorim, the former RB Leipzig striker has scored twice all season, while United’s number 30 has found the back of the net four times since his departure.
The young striker explained that the team plays with much more freedom under Carrick, while everyone works hard for each other without the ball.
‘It’s true, he said these things [about playing with freedom] many times for the team. That’s exactly what we do.
“But that’s not the only thing. You can see how much we work hard for each other without the ball and that ultimately contributes to good results. The work rate is definitely different. Everyone is sharp and covering their spaces. In the end, that’s what counts.”
Sesko longs to start a game
“The goal is to continue this way. We want to focus on our work and on what we have to do. We have to work hard as we do and concentrate at every moment. All this will lead to great results.”
United’s new summer signings have come on in a big way under Carrick, with all three scoring since his arrival. Now that Patrick Dorgu is out, Benjamin Sesko hopes to quickly acquire a starting place.
