Martin O’Neill made clear decisions in his team and squad selection for the Home Firm match between Celtic and Rangers. Kasper Schmeichel And Kelechi Iheanacho were both absent from the team.
A decline in form for both appears to be some of the reasons for this. Schmeichel had called in sick before the start of the match, but he still could have been dropped. The move to sign Viljami Sinisalo was obviously obvious when Schmeichel was unavailable, but all in all, this could be the end. Before this special clash, Schmeichel was under pressure from fans for certain mistakes. It offers an interesting perspective from a Leicester point of view.

Denmark has not yet qualified for the 2026 World Cup. However, they will participate in the play-off qualification matches in the late days of March. This situation can be a problem. Kasper Schmeichel is the sure first choice for Denmark and will not get any playing time towards the end of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho featured frequently under Martin O’Neill, but was left out of the selection today along with Kasper Schmeichel. That looks dramatic considering the two are proven professionals who still have something to offer.
Celtic are currently third in the Scottish Premier League. They are out of Europe after being defeated by Stuttgart in straight games, but still managed to win 1-0 in that final match of their trip. Finnish international Viljami Sinisalo took his chance with some special saves in that 1-0 win. He retained his place for today’s match against Rangers, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the final games of the season. Celtic still have a number of specials to fight for. They are still chasing first place in the league. They will also face Rangers in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals. They reached the final of the Scottish League Cup, but suffered defeat against St. Mirren.
Kasper Schmeichel and Kelechi Iheanacho were both in the line-up in that League Cup final. It must be a concern to see them both fall. They were not involved in this crucial league match against Rangers today.
