A railway employee was found dead with a shot wound in his government quarter in the railway city of West Bengal in Chittaranjan on Sunday evening. According to eyewitnesses, the victim, Pradip Choudhury, died by suicide, although there is a police investigation.
The incident came six months after Pradip’s wife Sanchita Choudhury was murdered and her throat was cut in the same neighborhoods where her husband died on Sunday.
According to police and local sources, Pradip lived in the quarters with his son Debaditya. Debaditya had gone out on Sunday afternoon and when he returned around 8 p.m., he found the door locked up from the inside. Despite repeated beating, there was no response. He then informed the local vice director and the police of Chittaranjan.
The police arrived on the spot and broke open the door to discover Pradip who was dead on the bed with a bullet wound on his head. According to police sources, a firearm was also recovered from the scene.
The police are investigating whether it was suicide or murder. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination and forensic experts were called to investigate the incident.
Basanti Puja was held on 3 April, the wife of Pradip was found dead with her throat slot in the quarters, causing the widespread shock in the area.
The police had interviewed Pradip several times in connection with the murder case.
“It is believed that he died by suicide. Police investigation has been in progress. They have not yet caught the accused who killed his wife. The crime has increased in Chittaranjan. The administration should be more proactive and should take action soon,” said Indrajit Singh, general secretary of Chittaranjan).
