Ben Askren didn’t mince his words while sharing his thoughts on Nate Diaz. While Diaz is an iconic name in MMA, Askren doesn’t think he was an elite fighter. Askren believes Diaz used his personality to convince people he was good. Askren also pulled out Diaz’s file to prove his point. However, “Funky” doesn’t want his comments to go viral and attract the attention of the infamous Diaz Army.

The record speaks for itself

“Nate Diaz, I don’t even think he’s that good, but he’s convinced people that he’s somehow good at fighting… He was average,” Askren told Daniel Cormier. “His record is 21-13. That’s not that great… Within the UFC he was 16-12… Please don’t post this clip because the Diaz army will attack me.”Cormier initially defended Diaz, citing his win on “The Ultimate Fighter 3.” However, when Askren pulled out Diaz’s record, “DC” agreed that “there’s no way to turn that around for the better.”

Diaz (21-13) fought tough competition in the UFC and emerged victorious against notable opponents such as Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, Jim Miller and Takanori Gomi, among others. However, Diaz’s rivalry with Conor McGregor may be the highlight of his UFC career. While Diaz submitted McGregor in their first meeting at UFC 196, he dropped a majority decision to the Irishman in their rematch at UFC 202.
