The Windsor Castle Hotel in Paddington was a popular drinking place in the 70s and 80s. Many locals still have good memories of the place, which have been converted into a luxury home – and now they have the chance to possess it.
When Anita Nolan enjoyed a few beers in the Windsor Castle Hotel in the interior of Paddington in the inner Sydney of Paddington, she could not have imagined the luxury house that it would be.

Neither that she would be lucky to live there.
“It’s a very funny thought. We certainly had beer here at the bar. Some of our friends tell us that they always came for a drink, some even tell us they met their partners here.”
The local population still lovingly calls this place ‘the castle’, and with its majestic white facade on the corner of the streets of Windsor and Elizabeth, and the tilts that string his roof line, it still looks a bit like one.

Inside, the house with four bedrooms and four bathrooms in 72 Windsor Street is certainly suitable for royalties.
Originally built in the 1880s, the building was renovated in 2012 with its interior designed by Sydney Studio X.Pace. Anita and her husband, former Goldman Sachs director David Nolan, bought the castle in 2016.

Mrs. Nolan said that parking for five cars and more than 1,000 m² internal and outdoor space was “extremely rare in the suburb” and has allowed her family privacy and space that they did not think was possible in Paddington.
“I love the open design of the house. It is like having a beautiful penthouse apartment in a house. It has a beautiful large kitchen and a huge Butler’s pantry, and it all goes out in a central courtyard, which has been fantastic.
“We have had parties there of a maximum of 100 people and it is so private; nobody can watch.”

Agent Luke Hogan in McGrath Double Bay described the building as “absolutely breathtaking” and a “very iconic monument” that the locals are very fond of.
“Most of the eastern suburbs of Sydney have a certain degree of misfinters in the Windsor Castle,” he said.
“It was a very popular pub for a number of years, especially in the 70s and 80s.”
Today the castle is mentioned with a guiding price of $ 25 million, which would break the record sale of Paddington that would be established by a penthouse on top of the Royal Hospital for Women Heritage Conversion on 10/18 Flinton Street, which was sold for $ 20 million in 2023.

Mr. Hogan said that the real estate Windsor Street had been given a lot of interest in the first 24 hours on the market – mainly from the local population, including portside -downsizers, and those in the neighboring Woolhara who want to leave the suburb after news that it will have a new train station to serve 10,000 new homes.
The Nolans, their children who have flown the nest, are planning to reduce in the area.
Anita said she will cherish the memories of the place, both as a pub and later, her house.
“It is a castle. It is our castle and it has been a lot of fun to live here.”
