BCB launches internal probe

According to the official statement from the BCB, the board has learned of the allegations with great concern. The statement read: “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has noted with concern the allegations made in the media by a former member of the Bangladesh women’s national cricket team regarding alleged misconduct by certain individuals associated with the team. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the BCB has decided to form a committee to thoroughly investigate the allegations.” The board reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful and professional environment for all players and staff, emphasizing that any action will be taken strictly based on the committee’s recommendations.

Jahanara Alam’s claims

In a recent interview, Jahanara Alam revealed harrowing experiences during her time with the national team, alleging that a former selector and other officials had acted inappropriately towards her. She alleged that the incidents took place between 2021 and 2022, including during the Women’s ODI World Cup. Jahanara stated that she had reported the issues to senior BCB officials, including then managing director Shafiul Islam Nadel and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, but said no permanent action had been taken. She added that repeated indecent propositions and abuse affected her mental well-being, which eventually led her to retire from international cricket.

Following the allegations, the BCB said the committee’s findings would be crucial in determining appropriate disciplinary action. The board has emphasized that such cases will be treated with “utmost seriousness” to protect the integrity of Bangladesh cricket and its athletes. Jahanara’s cricket career

Jahanara Alam is one of Bangladesh’s most recognized women cricketers and has represented the nation in 135 white-ball matches, taking 48 ODI wickets and 60 T20I wickets. She also became the first woman from Bangladesh to participate in international competitions such as India’s Women’s T20 Challenge and the FairBreak Invitational T20. Currently living in Australia, Jahanara said she decided to speak out to inspire change and ensure a safer environment for future players.
