Crystal Palace is said to have established their asking price for Marc Guehi in the midst of ‘sincere interest’ by Liverpool in the defender.
The Reds are supposed to consider an approach to the South London club with regard to the 25-year-old, where the team of Arne Slot is currently missing in Center-Rug depth after the sale of Jarell Quansah and the injury to Joe Gomez.
That is what the Premier League champions left with only two senior central defenders, far from ideal scenario with just over fourteen days until the start of their title defense.
How much Palace wants for Marc Guehi?
On Wednesday evening, BBC Sport’s Sami Mokbel has issued an extensive update about where things stand with Guehi and a potential transfer to Liverpool.
The international English international is in the last year of his contract with Palace and ‘there are no signs’ that he will extend his deal, despite the understandable wishes of the Eagles to keep him for the long term.
The Reds have a ‘sincere interest’ this summer in the 25-year-old, but are reluctant to ‘be drawn in a long saga’ about the price that must be paid for the defender. The South London Club appreciates him at £ 40 million, but the Merseysiders hope to pay a lower amount.
Mokbel added that Guehi would probably be seriously considered “to the possibility of becoming a member of the ruling Premier League champions.
£ 40 million for Guehi is very reasonable – just get it done, Liverpool
It does not matter that the English defender could be available next year on a free transfer – Liverpool now needs it, and the asking price of Palace is far from excessive, even when he takes his contract situation into account.
A £ 40 million edition seems reasonable for a 25-year-old who has been proven in the English top flight and that would help to meet the home-grown quota requirements.
The Reds cannot run the risk of starting the Premier League season with only two senior center backs, and the pre-season matches against AC Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos emphasized that there are defensive shortcomings that are needed to address quickly.
We looked particularly vulnerable during the break in both games of the Asian tour, and as Stuart Pearce has recently noticed, one of Guehi’s greatest strong points is to defend itself against a counterattack.
Although Liverpool is the same as not to be extorted to pay what they consider an excessive amount for a player, that would not be the case to spend £ 40 million on the powerhouse of the palace, especially given our alarming lack of central defensive depth.
Despite all the excitement about a potential swoop for Alexander Isak, there is a greater need for the Reds to seriously pursue the Eagles Defender. We can only hope that the Anfield -Hierarchy now acknowledges and acts over it, instead of lagging behind with a cause of enormous regret in a few months if an injury crisis similar to 2020/21 would arise.
