Cameron Green continued his good shape and hit 35 at only 13 deliveries, his fifth score of 30+ in six T20i matches in 2025.
It was a well -completed version with the ball for the Aussies, led by Josh Hazlewood’s 3/27 in his return to the T20 Arena. Hazlewood took the most important wicket from Aidan Markram in the first, while he also broke Tristian Stubbs and Ryan Rickleton’s 72 Run partnership. Ben Dwarshius was excellent with 3/27, including the wicket of top scorer Ryan Rickleton, and Adam Zampa was as usual dangerous with 2/33.
The approach of Australia in T20 Cricket in the last 12 months after the T20 World Cup can be clearly seen, and it works. Although there will be a lot of frustration to miss a golden chance to beat Australia, the Proteas can take many positives from Game One. The 19 -year -old Kwena Maphaka was excellent and took 4/20 of his 4 overs, comfortably the best performance of each bowler from both sides.
South Africa had Australia in many problems on 6/75, but they did not succeed in taking advantage of their strong start, with Tristan Stubbs’ drop by Tim David at 56 turned out to be expensive. Australia could have been 8/136 if Stubbs held the catch, and Australia would probably have been rejected for less than 150.
Ryan Rickleton Top scored with 71, but he struggled to make a pace early in the game that the required run speed above 10 had for a large part of the pursuit that South Africa could not argue. The gap in experience and form between the two parties was clearly in Game One, and there is a lot of advantage in the Batting of Australia, which is a scary prospect. Mitch Marsh, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Owen could not all shoot – it is difficult to see two games in a row.
