October 30 – Organizers of the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup have sold out the first ticket allocation for the match between Australia and Iran at Gold Coast Stadium on March 5.
Tickets for all of Australia’s matches are in high demand, with their opening match against the Philippines on March 1 at Perth Stadium, which will also host the official opening ceremony. Sales are also strong, with just over four months to go until kick-off.
Australia, who played friendlies in Europe this week, meet South Korea on March 8 at the 83,500-capacity Stadium Australia in Sydney, where a special International Women’s Day will also be celebrated.
Chief Operating Officer of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026™ Local Organizing Committee, Sarah Walsh, said: “The fan response has been phenomenal. To see the initial ticket allocation exhausted already shows the incredible passion for women’s football and what this tournament means to Australians. Momentum is building across the country, and this is just the beginning – we know this will be a record-breaking tournament. Each match will feature Asia’s best players, world-class football and show an unforgettable atmosphere, so we’re encouraging fans to get in early while there are still great seats available.
The 27-match, 12-team tournament will be played from March 1 to 21 in three cities and five stadiums – two each in Sydney and Perth and on the Gold Coast.
Gold Coast Stadium will also host Iran against 2022 runners-up Korea on March 2 and the Philippines on March 8. The Philippines will play South Korea on March 5. The Gold Coast will also host knockout matches on March 19 that will determine which teams will secure their place at the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “The Gold Coast Stadium will be a sea of green and gold this March, with fans clearing seats to witness the Matildas’ take on Iran… The incredible turnout for tickets is great news for the game and for our local economy,” adding that fans should “move quickly to get tickets for any of the other five AFC Women’s Asian Cup matches being hosted in our city.”
In addition to the final qualifying stage for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil (the last time World Cup qualifiers will be linked to an AFC title championship with standalone qualifiers starting for the 2031 WWC), Australia 2026 will also be the penultimate state of Asian qualifying for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, with all eight quarter-finalists advancing to the 2028 AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament
Australia, Bangladesh, China, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, India, IR Iran, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Vietnam and Uzbekistan are the qualified teams for the 2026 Asian Cup. China is the reigning champions.
