Tyler Veen, who spent the last two seasons as head coach and general manager of the Rochester Grizzlies of the NA3HL, has been appointed as assistant coach for the Augsburg hockey team.
Veen replaces Jarrad Vroman, who spent two seasons as the best assistant coach of Auggies before he leaves in July to become the new head coach for the Wisconsin-Eeau Claire Women’s Hockey team.
“We are very happy to welcome Tyler to our program,” said Augsburg -head coach Garrett Hendrickson in a statement. “His experience, passion for the game and the dedication to developing hockey players makes him an excellent addition to our employees. I am convinced that he will have an immediate impact, both on and outside the ice, because we will continue to hold a championship culture here at Augsburg.”
Veen spent four seasons with the staff of the Grizzlies and served as an assistant coach from 2021 to 2023 before he was promoted to head coach and general director in 2023. The Grizzlies were 63-27-4 in Veen’s two seasons as head coach, which reached the Na3HL West Division Final Hockey. In his four years at the coaching staff, the Grizzlies were 134-42-4 and won the NA3HL championship in 2021-22.
Before he came to the Grizzlies, Veen served as a regional voluntary scout for the Ushl’s Fargo Force and as an explorer and assistant coach for the Nahl’s Austin Bruins. He also served as a youth hockey coach for four years in East Grand Forks, Minn.
In 2020 he obtained his bachelor’s degree in business management (Athletic Coaching Minor) from North Dakota. He also has a certificate in Hockey General Management and Scouting of Sports Management Worldwide.
