Jena Burgess Singleton opened the residual spot in 2024 for women who were looking for a place to relax and rest.
A Smyrna, GA, Woman, Jena Burgess Singleton, opened a private-all-wellnescampus of women called the rest Spot in June 2024 with one mission: to help women find a safe space to rest. The company of Singleton, aimed at mainly black women, was born of a journey of personal healing for her and evolved into a goal to achieve common healing when they realized that co -women struggled for similar things.
In an interview with EssenceSingleton recalled Her life in 2023 when she felt she was being weighed with the fears of her life, career and care.
Singleton remembered: “I was forced to rest. My body reacted physically. I would constantly shake out my cortisol levels; I had facial paralyzing. My nervous system was baked.”
Singleton was forced to concentrate on her healing after her doctor ordered her from work because of her health problems.
“It took a toll in a certain sense because you hear all the stories and you become a safe space for so many people,” Singleton explained. “I think in between and only my own personal journey from my father who needed a kidney transplantation, I had a daughter, I was divorced, Covid happened and George Floyd happened. Everything was really intensified.”
Singleton turned her own healing into something to share with others – an attempt that would lead to the creation of the residual spot.
The entrepreneur transformed her house into a space of healing, the development of naps rooms and creative spaces. The small -scale sanctuary had to expand quickly when requests for women who wanted a safe space, came in with a larger than expected speed.
Now the residual spot is on a hectare country in Smyrna. The location is nestled in lush green gardens and deliberately composite vibes built on calming scents for everyone who is present. The main building of the rest -place includes two different common rooms, snacks and tea, a library and more – all of which are composed to promote an emotional release for those looking for peace.
Singleton described from works from her own house to where the residual spot is today.
“I would say I will see the children, and they would go upstairs and take a nap,” said Singleton. “I had a bigger house, so I had two extra rooms and I started designing them. I just wanted to make them really comfortable and cozy, and it was a nice project for me.”
Now the residual spot has a large supporter of members, of whom there are around 90% black women, who can reserve time in different theme suites and spaces with a focus on different types of addition to help with sleep, self -reflection or even fair expression. The resting place has tools to help women in creative, mental and emotional peace.
The residual spot has room, even for mothers and does not allow the burden of childcare to prevent women from seeking the benefits.
The Singleton company includes a childcare suite and certified staff to take care of children of mothers who are present.
Singleton said: “For many of the black women who are members, this is the first time they have given someone the baby. That makes me very emotional because you see that they are in postpartum. You see that they are trembling.”
Singleton emphasizes the accessibility of the resting place by developing a membership model without the traditional barriers of other wellness resorts. Both meals and childcare are included in the price tag of membership.
The prices varies from $ 135 to $ 189 for monthly memberships.
“We don’t punish women because they are mothers. We meet them where they are,” Singleton explained.
“Loneliness is an epidemic,” she continued. “We have quite a few women who are single, who do not have children or pets or important others. Women want to feel connected, and they want to be with like -minded individuals. Every Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm we have a social hour, and the chef makes starters; we have drinks, and that is a different way in their membership.”
Singleton hopes to expand the wellness company to other parts of the Atlanta area and to build the current campus with seven different suites.
