India became the first team to qualify for the Super Four phase of the Asia Cup 2025 After the VAE, Oman surprised with 42 points in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Oman, who slid into a row to their second defeat, was beaten out of the tournament in the group stage.
India had already done most of the hard work by beating the VAE in their opener and then beating Pakistan by hitting seven wickets in Dubai.
With two wins from two games, the Suryakumar Yadav team only needed the VAE to prevent an early exit. The result against Oman confirmed the place of India in the next round with one more group match to play.
India, the title defender, will now be confronted with Oman in their last group A match on Friday. That match has no impact on their qualification, but the momentum could decide that the Super Four phase is on its way.
Pakistan vs vae to decide second place
With India through, the race for the second super four place in group A now depends on the collision on Wednesday between Pakistan and the VAE.
Pakistan is the stronger side on paper, but their participation itself is in doubt.
Media reports suggest that the PCB has threatened to withdraw after the controversy without a handshake in the India game and their requirement to remove referee Andy Pycroft was rejected by the ICC.
When Pakistan plays, it becomes a virtual knockout, where the winner comes in the Super Four in India. If they don’t, the UAE will move forward.
The clinical show of the VAE against Oman
Got out, Vae -Opers Muhammad Wasem and Alishan Sharafu gave their side a flying start.
Wasem hit 69 out of 54 balls while Sharafu 51 hammered from 38 deliveries to Power Vae to 172 for five.
In answer, Oman was bundled before 130 in 18.4 overs. Junaid Siddique was the star with the ball and took 4 for 23.
The victory not only kept the VAE in the tournament, but also ensured the safe passage of India to the next phase.
