Bangladesh kept their Asia Cup 2025 campaign alive with a narrow eight-run victory over Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Bangladesh only chose after winning the throw, started with a flying start thanks to Tanzid Hasan and Saif Hassan. The couple added 63 to the Power Play. Tanzid reached his fifty from only 28 balls and switched his innings with seven boundaries in his 31-ball 52.
However, the spinners of Afghanistan bounced brilliantly back. Noor Ahmad (2/23) and Rashid Khan (2/26) stopped the flow of runs in the middle overs, where Litton Das, Saif Hassan and Shamim Hossain with Bangladesh only manages 154/5 in their 20 overs.
Afghanistan’s answer saw Nasum Ahmed with the very first ball, by Sediqullah Atal LBW catching. He then removed Ibrahim Zadran in the Power Play. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Gulbadin NAIB tried to stabilize the innings, but they continue the twin strikes of Rishad Hossain on the back foot.
Azmatullah Omarzai brought the chase alive with a series of six. His 30 out of 16 balls waved the momentum back, but Taskin Ahmed dismissed him just when he looked to take the game away. Skipper Rashid Khan hit 20 out of 11 balls. But Mustafizur Rahman, who bow the most important 19th, was again delivered to death when he admitted only five runs and removed Rashid, so that the game was virtually sealed.
Afghanistan needed 22 of the last and saw Noor Ahmad break a few sixths to reduce the Nedermarge. But with his resignation on the last ball, Afghanistan was extended before 146.
Who said what?
Nasum Ahmed, player of the game
I always feel like bowling the new ball, that’s what the captain asked me to do. I love that challenge. There was a lot of sweat today, so taking the ball was a challenge, but I enjoy these challenges.
Rashid Khan, Afghanistan (losing captain)
We were in the game until the end, but we couldn’t finish it. 30 out of 18 balls was very table. We did not play the type of cricket we are familiar for- cricket attacks. We have a lot of pressure on ourselves. The way we returned with the ball to limit them under 160 was special, but with the Batting we played some irresponsible photos. In T20 the opposition sometimes takes the game away in the first six overs, but then you have to come back. Learn a lot for us from this game. Every game is important in the Asia Cup. We must be well prepared for Sri Lanka, it will be a big challenge for us.
Litton Das, Bangladesh (winning captain)
Winning the game was a relief, but we did not hit so well in the last 4-5 overs. I felt there were enough runs, but we still thought we were 15-20 points short. The way Nasum and Rishad Bowling was special, they really showed their skills. Today Tamim was very good, the opening partner was crucial. I Don’t know, let’s take a look
