Arsenal have submitted a formal bid to sign Moroccan international Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid Transfers.

Since his move from Manchester City to the Bernabéu in 2019, Díaz has enjoyed a meteoric rise in individual performances, which has been instrumental to Los Blancos’ trophy-laden success in recent years.

Remember new hair

After appearing in 56 games last season, including 31 in La Liga, his role has been significantly reduced this term, with just four starts in his 18 appearances in all competitions for Xabi Alonso’s side.

However, although his playing time has decreased, Diaz has proven that his form remains alive and well in the ongoing African Cup of Nations, where he has scored four goals, the most in the tournament and the most of any Moroccan player in history at the AFCON.

With a year left on his contract and limited playing time, there is uncertainty as to whether the versatile forward will extend his stay at Madrid, and several clubs, including Arsenal, are now positioning themselves to make a splash for him.

It looks like Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to steal a march on other rivals Transfers claims the Gunners have submitted a formal £43m bid to Madrid for Diaz’s transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

The report adds that Los Blancos are now assessing the offer and whether to keep him or sanction his departure, as they believe the offer is significant compensation for a player who is not a first-team regular.

Arsenal have been in strong form in recent weeks. Aston Villa were defeated 4-1 at the Emirates before edging past Bournemouth 3-2 to extend their winning streak to seven games.

One of the standout performers during that run was Martin Ødegaard, who is starting to look close to his best again. Against Villa he lofted a beautiful pass into the penalty area for Martin Zubimendi’s goal, and set up Declan Rice’s first goal in the win over the Cherries.

With Odegaard having found his form, and Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri and Kai Havertz also being reliable options who can alternate in different attacking positions, a move for Diaz may not be feasible at this point as the Gunners are already well established in attack.
