Around the Jets: DiVincentiis remembered Morrissey on Wednesday in Vancouver

As the 2026 Winter Olympics draw to a close, it’s time to shift the focus back to Jetsland. Luckily for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck and forward Kyle Connor, they return to Winnipeg with gold around their necks after Team USA’s 2-1 win over Canada in Sunday’s gold medal game.

For Josh Morrissey, it was a silver medal with Team Canada, even though he played only one stint of Olympic hockey before suffering an upper-body injury. He will continue to miss the time, including the Jets’ first game back from the break Wednesday in Vancouver against the Canucks.

Scott Arniel said today that Josh Morrissey will not be available for the #NHLJets in Vancouver on Wednesday. The Olympians are flying from Italy to Miami because of the weather in the northeastern US. Morrissey will then be evaluated by Winnipeg doctors, and updates will follow

Murat Ates reported later that Team USA, including Hellebuyck and Connor, will visit the White House on Tuesday. As a result, Hellebuyck will not play on Wednesday and Connor is available remains uncertain.
That helps explain why the Jets recalled goaltender Domenic DiVincentiis from the Manitoba Moose on Monday after briefly sending him back to the AHL to start against the Iowa Wild on Sunday. While DiVincentiis may have initially been a placeholder in practice, he is now traveling on the three-game road trip to back up Eric Comrie, and could potentially earn his first NHL start between the pipes.

On TSN’s First Up on Monday: Darren Dreger indicated that Morrissey will be sidelined for an extended period of time.

“…Josh Morrissey, by the way, is going to miss a good chunk of time for the Winnipeg Jets. Maybe not a big deal considering where the Jets are positioned in the West, but that’s what I’ve been told, and the Jets doctors really want to take a look at Josh Morrissey. Obviously, the injury he suffered was worse than expected or feared because he didn’t play, so he’s going to miss a chunk of time…”

Striker Nino Niederreiter, who represented Switzerland at the Olympics, also returned to train with the team on Monday.

Olympian Nino Niederreiter wants to compete today #NHLJets excercise. Winnipeg’s first game back from the break is Wednesday in Vancouver.

It will be interesting to see how Winnipeg’s lineup shakes out Wednesday in what could be a one-and-done look before Connor and Hellebuyck return.
