Arman Tsarukyan, who considers himself a NIGHTMARE for the UFC lightweight division, has reacted to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s choice to defeat Ilia Topuria in a potential bout.
Tsarukyan is currently in a difficult situation. Despite being the number one contender for over a year, he has not received a title shot for several reasons. The Armenian’s last fight was at UFC Qatar against Dan Hooker, which he won by second-round submission. Then ‘Ahalkalakets’ declared champion Topuria, who had no interest in talking to the former.
Given the 29-year-old’s impressive resume, ‘physicality and elite wrestling’, many believe he has what it takes to dethrone ‘El Matador’ and surpass any current lightweight competitor. UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov also thinks the same. In a recent interview, ‘The Eagle’, while discussing a possible fight between Topuria and Tsarukyan, said:
“I’d say it’s 80%-20% in Arman’s favor. His wrestling, his pressing and his physicality, it all matters. He’s almost 4 inches taller, if I’m not mistaken. He’s heavier, and on fight night he’s going to be the heavier guy. And of course wrestling plays a big role, especially in fights like this. Because of his MMA style, not just wrestling. He can take people down; he’s got good elbows on the cling. Very good elbows. He can wrestle, submit and take the back.

In a recent interview with Complex newsArman Tsarukyan stated that he is confident he has the tools to defeat Ilia Topuria. On paper, Tsarukyan possesses the size advantage and a deeper arsenal. However, Topuria’s right hand and devastating combos are enough to put anyone to sleep.
‘Ahalkalakets’ responded when Khabib Nurmagomedov praised him and picked Tsarukyan to beat Topuria if they ever cross paths.
“Khabib is one of the best fighters. He knows better than everyone. And not just Khabib, everyone says I can beat Ilia.”
