As families across the country gather to celebrate Christmas on Thursday, December 25, Americans should be prepared for a mix of closures and adjusted timings.
What is closed at Christmas?
Most federal and financial institutions will suspend their activities on Thursday. Banks, post offices and the stock market (NYSE and Nasdaq) are all closed. Major carriers such as United Parcel Service Inc. (NYSE:UPS) and FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) will also suspend standard pickup and delivery services.

What’s open?
Select pharmacies such as CVS Health Corp. (NYSE:CVS) and Wal vegetables will also work, but shoppers should check local store hours as pharmacy counters may be closed even if the store is open. 7-Eleven stores also remain open, albeit with adjusted opening hours.
Business will resume on Friday, November 28. Banks and post offices will reopen for regular services.
The markets will reopen on Friday and remain open during regular trading hours.
