Anthony Edwards tries to replicate a crucial element of Michael Jordan’s game

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has settled as a consensus-top 10 player during his five-year career. However, there is still room for the 24-year-old to improve. One of the more striking improvement areas for Edwards is his game.

Dave McMenamin from ESPN recently discussed how playing is a focus area for Edwards this season outside season. He noticed how the trainer of Edwards, Chris Hines, focuses on teaching the history of the game. In particular, McMenamin stated how Edwards’ camp lets him watch the feature film by Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant to see how they read the defense. This is something that dates the low season, but no doubt is still something that Edwards is trying to replicate this summer.

‘Chris told me that he worked a bit on it to teach him [Edwards] The history of the game, McMenamin said. We know you can score, we know how great an athlete you are, but view these clips from Kobe [Bryant]. View these clips from Michael Jordan. See how they read the defense when she collapses it in the shot clock. We saw it fruits in the play -offs. ”

Trying to replicate this aspect of two all time of great players makes sense to Edwards. As an athletic score-first guard, Edwards has a similar playing style such as Jordan and Kobe. Simply put, to be the best, you have to learn from it.

Edwards has taken steps as a playmaker, but he has a different level to reach

In the past two seasons, Edwards has already made progress as a playmaker, an average of 4.5 assists in the regular season and 5.1 assists. According to statistics from BBAL Index, Edwards is one of the most improved game makers in the past three seasons. Anyway, it is clear that Edwards has a different level to reach as a playmaker.

In the first two rounds of the Play -Offs, Edwards showed a lot of improvement as a playmaker, an average of 5.9 assists and only 2.3 sales. This included a great first round against the Los Angeles Lakers, where he had an average of 6.2 assists and 1.2 sales. However, Edwards took a step back in the Western Conference Finals, on average 4.6 assists and 3.2 sales.

Edwards struggled against the stifling defense of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He sometimes still has to read better and has not perfected double teams. If Edwards can add this to his already elite score and all-round game, he could become a legitimate top-five player.

The Raw Career Assist averages of Jordan (5.3) and Bryant (4.7) may not jump off the page. However, they controlled the making of law when the defense collapsed on them, especially in their prime. While Edwards enters his true Prime, it will be absolutely necessary that he develops this power.

With Mike Conley Aging, the Wolves Edwards will give more responsibilities as a playmaker. This will be the case in particular if Rob Dillingham struggles with an increased role. Most elite perimeter players are counted in the modern NBA to initiate the attack of their teams as game makers and scorers, and Edwards will have to do that exactly.
