According to an update divided by SPORTBarcelona has reached full agreement with Center-back Eric Garcia for a contract renewal that will hold him in the club until 2030.
This decision marks a considerable shift in the status of the player at the club only a few months after he almost left.
Garcia’s renewal was not a random decision. It was an explicit request from manager Hansi Flick, who sees the 24-year-old as a key figure in his tactical plans.
Rejected a move last season
It should be noted that although Garcia had limited opportunities last season after returning a loan to Girona, he was impressed during the last months of the campaign.
That increase in the late season was enough to convince Flick, not only to keep it, but also to ask for a long -term extension.
In January the situation of Garcia looked very different. Besides other names, Barcelona considered loading him in an attempt to illuminate their tight wage account.
Girona even made an offer to permanently sign him. Flick, however, strongly rejected the idea to let him go and saw a reliable and multifunctional player in Garcia who could be crucial in his rotation.
A statement of trust from Barcelona
With his earlier contract until 2026, Barcelona took the time before he made a final decision.
The sports department of the club delayed formal discussions until the summer, in the conviction that there was a mutual desire to continue. That faith has now paid off.
By expanding its deal to 2030, Barça Make it clear that Garcia is part of their present and future.
However, this comes with a very delicate reservation in the form of Hector Fort. The young La Masia Full-back has waited for his chance, but given the competition he will probably move this summer.
