The company said the services will operate on a precise and regular schedule, providing passengers with a reliable and efficient alternative.
Mohammed Alshehii, Chief Projects Officer at Etihad Rail, confirmed that the passenger service will officially start in 2026. In the first phase, the network will connect eleven carefully selected cities and areas, including Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, University City in Sharjah and the Al Hilal district in Fujairah.
He said: “Our trains are designed to provide a reliable, congestion-free alternative to intercity travel, with an emphasis on reducing journey times. Ten of the thirteen trains from our fleet have arrived, where they have been tested and certified to the highest international safety and quality standards.
“Each train can accommodate up to 400 passengers and will be operated using the latest systems to ensure reliability and safety. Our services will be seamlessly integrated into the wider transport network, with stations connected to other modes of transport.”

Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Mobility, said: “Our preparations to launch passenger services on the national rail network in 2026 reflect the vision of our wise leadership to build an integrated transport ecosystem that supports the economic and social fabric of the UAE.”
“The passenger rail network will serve as a cornerstone of the UAE’s national transport ecosystem, supporting the country’s long-term development and strengthening connectivity across the Emirates. It also builds on our proven success since 2023 in operating the national freight rail service.
“This national milestone is the result of close collaboration between all partners and stakeholders, driven by exceptional national talent and supported by global best practices. At the same time, we have equipped the network with a next-generation fleet and advanced technologies, in collaboration with leading international operators, to ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability and safety.”
She added: “Our trains will have a clear Emirati identity that will strengthen national cohesion while serving as a long-term investment in the country’s transportation and infrastructure sectors. These strategic projects will boost domestic tourism and establish a new regional standard for sustainable, people-centered mobility, enhance community well-being and improve the quality of life.”
Although ticket details and the official launch date are yet to be announced, the project marks an important step towards improving connectivity within the UAE. In addition to faster commutes, the passenger rail line is expected to boost domestic tourism and reduce traffic congestion.
