Manchester United had to settle for just a point after playing out an eight-goal thriller against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday.
The home team started well and deservedly took the lead through Amad. But they allowed the visitors back into the match through Antoine Semenyo towards the end of the game.
Casemiro ensured that the Red Devils went into halftime with a one-goal lead, but the second half started disastrously.
The visitors scored twice within the opening seven minutes, and Ruben Amorim’s tactical adjustment left most of the backline looking confused.
Formation change
The switch to a back four did help unleash the team’s attacking potential, however, as Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha scored to hand the lead back to the 20-time English league champions.
However, they ultimately failed to hold out and conceded a late equalizer. After the match, Amad was asked about the system change, and he explained IN TV“I think it depends on the opponent.
“We work depending on the opponent, sometimes we play as 4-4-2, sometimes we play as 3-4-3, sometimes we also play 4-3-3, maybe people outside don’t see that. As a team we can change.”
“But the system doesn’t matter to us. Nowadays [the focus] We were supposed to win this game, so we are very disappointed, but at the same time we get one point and we will prepare for the next game.”
Despite the entertainment, throwing away the lead three times in one match deserves criticism and the Ivorian said his teammates were disappointed with the outcome.
“You immediately saw in the locker room that everyone was very disappointed, because we know that we can do much better as a team.
“We knew we could win this game today, but [it’s] a big disappointment that we get one point and [we’re] thinking about the next match.
Amad was disappointed when he let the lead slip
“I think when we conceded the goal, the two goals straight away in the second half, we had the pressure to come [back] in the game.
“We scored the 4-3, but it is a big disappointment that we did not win this match because if we win this match we will be better in the league. [table “” not found /]
. But it’s not bad to draw either. The worst part was losing this match. So we’re going to get one point and prepare for the next match.”
The 23-year-old will not be available for the match against Aston Villa as he and Bryan Mbeumo leave for AFCON after Monday night’s match.
Amorim has a tough task against a team that is in form. It will be interesting to see how he handles things in the absence of his two main creative outlets.
