Alysa Liu says Lady Gaga free skate unlikely for Milano Cortina 2026

American figure skater Alyssa Liu Perhaps fans were amazed this week 2026 US Figure Skating Championships with a daring new freeskate set to the music of Lady Gaga – but the future of the program on the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics 2026* hangs in the air.

In an exclusive conversation with Gracie Gold from Olympics.comLiu opened up about her music switch. She revealed that the Gaga program will likely not pass her Olympic free skate.

“I don’t even think I’m going to do that [it] at the Olympics,” Liu said. “But I really wanted to do it someday… I always wanted to do MacArthur Park for the individual free skate event.”

The program, which the 20-year-old debuted in September, originally featured Gaga’s “Bloody Mary.” It has since gone through a series of iterations due to music rights issues.

“At first I wanted the orchestral version, but… you can’t just use someone’s orchestral version of ‘Bloody Mary’ from YouTube,” she explained. “So no orchestra, no Bloody Mary. That’s how it was in my head.”

Although the Gaga program was completed before December Grand Prix Finalwho won the American with her signature MacArthur Park free skate, Liu opted to save it for U.S. championships.

“I trained at MacArthur Park twice a week, but the rest of the time it was the Lady Gaga program,” she said of her impending entry into the competition.

As for Milan? Liu sticks to her long-held vision: “It would always be MacArthur Park.”

She added that an updated dress design – still metallic, but with a fresh twist – is also in the works.

*As the National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Winter Olympic Games, athletes’ participation in Milano Cortina 2026 depends on the choice of their NOC to represent their delegation at the Games.
