Alexander Volkanovski dismisses retirement rumors ahead of UFC 325

Ahead of UFC 325, Alexander Volkanovski has addressed his retirement rumors. ‘The Great’, who regained the UFC featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Diego Lopes last year, will make the first defense of his second reign at UFC 325 on January 31, live from the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. He’ll take it back with Lopes.

Ahead of the title rematch, rumors are swirling that this will be the current and two-time UFC featherweight champion’s final fight, and that he will lay down the gloves in front of his home crowd.

However, ‘The Great’ has no plans to retire after UFC 325 unless something goes terribly wrong.

Alexander Volkanovski has no plans to retire after UFC 325

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the Australian admitted that he has no plans to retire just yet. He wants to win the Lopes retake by taking minimal damage and then making a quick turnaround and taking on the undefeated Movsar Evloev or Lerone Murphy. The 37-year-old reaffirmed that he is feeling great and that he has not thought about retirement. He said:

“If I got beat up, would I come back to fight? No. But that’s not my plan. Unless things go terribly wrong, I plan on going back. Whether it’s the next fight, taking on an undefeated fighter in the UFC, or something like that, that’s attractive… The plan isn’t definitely to retire.”

“I can’t promise another three, four years. But I don’t think I’m going to retire with this because I plan on raising my hand and taking minimal damage… Maybe we’ll see what happens next, who we’ll have next, and maybe it will be a little more attractive fight to retire.”
