ALCS Game 6 Topic: Toronto Blue Jays vs. Seattle Mariners

We know the Los Angeles Dodgers are returning to the World Series on the NL side after holding the Milwaukee Brewers to just four runs and fourteen hits in four games. And of course, that was highlighted by Shohei Ohtani’s unique 10-strikeout/three-homer game on Friday night that punched their ticket. Geno Suárez also hit a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning for the Mariners after kicking off with a solo shot in the second, but that was lost with everything happening in LA.

However, we still see who will face the Dodgers on the AL side. The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t won a World Series since 1993 – the year the Rockies were founded – and the Seattle Mariners haven’t won at all (and haven’t been to the playoffs since 2001). It was a back-and-forth series, with the Mariners becoming the first home team to win a game on Friday.

Logan Gilbert will take the mound for the Mariners. The 28-year-old right-hander has a 1-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in three appearances (two starts) this postseason. In his last appearance against the Jays in Game 2, Gilbert allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and a walk over three innings. Before that, he was used in the 10th and 11th innings of the 15-inning Game 5 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers. He allowed three hits and two walks (one intentional), but also struck out two on 34 pitches.

Gilbert will face Jays 22-year-old phenom Trey Yesavage. Yesavage has a 1-1 record and a 4.82 ERA in the postseason through two starts. He didn’t hit the Yankees for 5 1/3 innings during Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series, but then came back to allow five runs on four hits, including a three-run homer, with a hit batter, four walks (one intentional) and four strikeouts in Game 2. The Jays lost that game 10–3.

Will the Blue Jays force a Game 7, or will the Mariners wrap things up tonight? Stay informed!

Lineups will be published as soon as they become available.
