Seven Laver Cup participants make the long journey from San Francisco, California to Tokyo, Japan for the continuation of Asian Swing.
Carlos Alcaraz heads this ATP 500 field as the best seed, so that his debut appears in the Japan open (he took over the past two seasons in Beijing). The Top Spaniard comes from another US Open title, but he lost one of his Laver Cup competitions to Taylor Fritz and this is generally his least productive time of the year.
As such, it is no guarantee that Alcaraz will lift the trophy, although it is an important favorite. A strong field only makes it even more difficult for the six-time Grand SLAM champion, because Fritz brings his talents to Tokyo together with Holger Rune, Casper Ruud and Tomas Machac. Rune, Ruud and Machac were all teammates from Alcaraz’s on a failed European team in San Francisco (Machac was an alternative). Frances Tiafoe, Matteo Berrettini and current Chengdu finalist Alejandro Tabilo are also in the field with 32 men.

Alcaraz will kick off his campaign against clay courter Sebastian Baez before being confronted with Tabilo or Zizou Bergs. Tiafoe and Brandon Nakashima are potential quarter-final opponents for the 22-year-old; Ruud is a possible semi -final enemy.
The lower half of the bracket contains Fritz, Rune, Machac, Alex Michelsen, Sebastian Korda and Gabriel Diallo.
