Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson got a real taste of what it is like to be a professional hunter while filming The Smashing Machine.
Prior to the official release of the film on 3 October, Johnson’s representation of MMA -legend Mark Kerr received glowing reviews from critics, with many who praised the dedication of the former WWE super star to the role and hyper -realistic fighting sequences.
Johnson was doing all his own stunt work for the film, also during one of the most crucial moments of the film, a recreation of Kerr’s 2000 Pride Grand Prix Final Fight against Kazuyuki Fujita.
To ensure that the series looked as authentic as possible, ‘The Rock’ revealed that he encouraged his co-star to really hit him.
“Benny said:” I would never like to cut you off in these fights. We have a great stunt doubles. We have two. I would just like to use you. ” And I know what that meant, “Johnson told reporters about a recent one Media Round table. “So at the end in that scene we had to tell our scene partner, who is a hunter, and I said to him,” Hey, brother, you pull you bumps. You have to put it in and you have to hit me. ”
“He’s going:” What do you mean? “I said:” Benny does not cut away, this is the end of the film. You know this really happened.
“He said,” I’m not going to do that. ” I said, “I want you to hit me.” He says, “I’m respecting you, I’m not going to do that.” I asked Benny to come by, and Benny had asked him and he says, “You have to hit him because I don’t cut away.” And then I found out that Bas [Rutten] Listened to this whole thing. And Bas was just like: ‘Just hit him. He’s the rock. Take him. “It’s just like WHOA. He hit me so hard, and that’s what you see in the movie. “
Based on the documentary from 2002 The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark KerrThe film plays Johnson and Emily Blunt, and contains various remarkable MMA personalities, including UFC Aluin and dual Bellator champion Ryan Bader, undisputed heavyweight boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Bas Rutten.
