The Premier League campaign starts in just over a week, and apart from a small miracle, Newcastle United does not have Alexander Isak or a new striker ready to play in Aston Villa.
Isak is still looking for his relocation to Liverpool, Will Osula and Sean Neave still have to find the back of the net in the preseason, and Anthony Gordon who plays in the middle does not use the winger to his best skills.
With £ 70 million Benjamin Sesko who is now going to Manchester United, the number of strikers that we could possibly sign are slowly decreasing, so we have to act quickly with the season that will be coming soon and the window that will be closed in just over three weeks.
Alan Shearer has stepped and gave his recommendations about who he thinks we should sign, especially if we want to try to match Isak’s target gate from last season awaiting a departure.
Speaking with Betfair, Shearer believes that the club should make two signing sessions this summer to properly replace Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.
With a similar thinking such as Eddie Howe, Shearer has mentioned the Premier League-Conserved Duo by Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) and Yoane Wissa (Brentford) as his favorite attacking options.
“If Newcastle Yoane Wissa and Ollie Watkins were to get, I think this would be two really good signing sessions, but I don’t think fans of Aston Villa and Brentford would appreciate me about their players as we are.
“If those deals could be done, it would be a huge plus for Newcastle and they need it. Even if Isak stays, they still need a center output because they have lost Callum Wilson.”
In his praise for the pair of shearer, a little skepticism if Sesko was the right choice this summer, in the conviction that more polished players are needed if we want to compete in all competitions next season.
“I have seen Sesko in the Champions League and I know he is very young, but he is raw. There is certainly talent there, but he is in no way the completed article and will have to improve a lot. I would say the same if he came to Newcastle. While Wissa and Watkins have known the Premier League in the Premier League.”
If something has proven this summer, it is that we have had an enormous difficulty in getting almost every deal.
And we would expect more from the same if we continue with a chase for both Watkins and Wissa.
“The Wissa situation is very similar to the Isak situation where they both insist on a movement to get what they want.”
“Ollie Watkins is strongly connected to other clubs – Man United is one of them. I don’t know if a deal between Newcastle and Aston Villa could be done.
“I am an admirer of Ollie, but I suspect that the Aston Villa fans and the manager will not appreciate me and other people about their center-forward who go to different clubs.”
Watkins is of course not the only villa player with which we are connected, as John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey both recently mentioned in the post as players on our radar. But it would be no surprise if the last thing Villa would like to sell to a top five rival.
“It is a cheerful go-round at the moment. If you look at the pursuit package, with the business and astronomical costs that have been paid by people like Arsenal and Chelsea, if you look at the will of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brighton and others, it will be how difficult it is to go in the top of the top.
