Alan Shearer detailes what has happened so far this summer with Newcastle United, ‘A Nightmare’ in his opinion.

‘Until now, the Newcastle preseason was a nightmare. There is no other way to describe it.
They have had a disastrous transfer window, in which they have missed all their top goals that they went for, and moreover they have the situation of Alexander Isak hanging over them while preparing for the opening weekend.
Somehow they have to solve it, but that will not be easy. Isak clearly wants to leave St James’ park and become a member of Liverpool, but he cannot be sold if they don’t get anyone to replace him.
It is also not just one new striker that Newcastle needs. Callum Wilson continued earlier in the summer, so the reality is that if they don’t get two Center-Forwards, Isak will not go anywhere.
That is still a possible scenario and if he is still in Newcastle when the window closes at the beginning of September, things become interesting because he will want to play – he could play for his world cup place with Sweden at the final of next summer.
There are a lot of IFS at the moment, but Maybes around Isak, but in the next two or three weeks we will learn much more about how things can come out.
However, the priority of Newcastle is currently Saturday and their journey to Aston Villa.
I feel for manager Eddie Howe and the rest of the players who are dealing with all the noise if it is not their fault, and Isak will not be with them for that game – which is really disappointing. ‘
Liverpool and their £ 110 million offer
‘This summer should have been a time for Newcastle to really start after last season, after the highlights of claiming their first domestic trophy for 70 years and then qualifying for the Champions League.
I don’t know how or why it is allowed to happen, but at the moment it feels like much of that momentum has been lost.
Newcastle entered the summer without chief executive or sports director, which I love. They knew that Darren Eales was abandoned last September – 11 months ago as a chief executive – and Paul Mitchell left at the end of June as a sports director.
I don’t know why they have not mentioned anyone or that it has hindered them in the transfer market, because I am not within the club, but from the outside it is not a good appearance. It is a mess and it raises the question of who has made the big decisions.
Now they also have to deal with Isak. There are two sides to every story and we have not heard from Isak, or someone in his camp, except that he says he wants to explore his options.
We do not know when he told the club, how he told them, or what his feelings are about exactly why he wants. What we do know is that Liverpool has offered £ 110 million for him.
In recent years we have seen Enzo Fernandez, Declan Rice and Jack Grealish go for around £ 100 million, so if that is the bar, they will never get Isak-a 25-year-old striker who has scored 44 Premier League goals in the past two seasons. I don’t think you get burned for that, to be honest.
Newcastle has mentioned their price, which is closer to £ 150 million, so we will have to see what Liverpool then does. The top and bottom is that if Newcastle does not get the money they want, or the two strikers they need, then ISAK remains. ‘

Why Wissa and Watkins fit well
‘I am not angry about the way Isak has behaved because I know how football works. I am disappointed and surprised that this is happening now, but I have been in the game long enough to understand why we are on this point.
It seems clear that Liverpool has come to him, or his agent, to turn his head and let him go there. From the perspective of a players, instead of a fan, I get the mentality where he has also entered into what is best for his future.
But it is the club that is most important here and, whatever happens, the core of the matter is that Newcastle United is much larger than a person – it has always been and will always be.
Players always go further and do what they have to do, but the club is always there. That is the only constant, every season.
So, Newcastle must take care of themselves, which means that if they are considering to let Isak go for every price they want for him, they also have to get two strikers they want before they can.
When they are available, Yoane Wissa from Brentford and the Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa are proven Premier League Strikers and probably the best scenario from Newcastle’s point of view.
At the same time, I appreciate that fans of those clubs do not want their center forces to be linked to movements, in the same way as supporters in Newcastle at the moment.
The situation of Wissa in particular is very similar to that of Isak. It just shows you that this is something that always happens in football, and it is of course frustrating if you are wrong. ‘

Prediction how this season will go for Newcastle United?
‘It is very difficult to predict what the Newcastle season could look like until the future of Isak has been resolved, but it can still be a very good one.
They have one of, if not the best middle fields in the country, they are really strong in broad areas and it seems that they are still signing a center half in AC Milans Malick Thiaw.
So looking at the larger whole, whether Isak will remain or is going and they can bring in two quality strikers, they still have a very good team.
Yet I still don’t know for sure if they would be able to improve fifth place of last season. The top four of last season have done so many good things and became so big in the transfer market, it will be extremely difficult for one of the chase packages to break in those places, not just Newcastle. ‘
