Airtel partners with IBM to expand AI-ready Airtel Cloud and add new data zones in India

Bharti Airtel (Airtel) on Wednesday said it has entered into a strategic partnership with IBM to expand the recently launched Airtel Cloud.

The partnership is expected to bring together Airtel Cloud’s telecom-grade reliability, high security and data locality with IBM’s leadership in cloud solutions and advanced infrastructure and software technologies designed for AI inference, the telecom provider said.

Partnership to expand data zones to 10; new MZRs in Mumbai and Chennai

“Today, with the IBM partnership, we are adding substantial capabilities to our Cloud platform to address the unique needs of various industries that require migration from IBM Power Systems and enable AI readiness. With this partnership, we are also expanding the footprint of our Availability Zones in India from four to ten, by hosting them in our own sustainable data centers of the following generation. We will also jointly establish two new Multizone Regions (MZRs) in Mumbai and Chennai soon,” said Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Airtel.

Airtel Cloud is designed to be highly secure and compliant, setting new industry benchmarks as a flexible and resilient cloud platform, he said.

IBM Power11 servers for mission-critical workloads for Indian companies

Through this partnership, Airtel Cloud customers can deploy the IBM Power systems portfolio as-a-Service, including the latest generation of IBM Power11 autonomous, AI-ready servers for mission-critical applications in regulated industries such as banking, healthcare, government and others, the company said.

The Power11 hybrid platform also supports critical enterprise workloads, including IBM Power AIX, IBM i, Linux and SAP Cloud ERP. Additionally, this partnership will help SAP customers use IBM Power in their transformation from enterprise resource planning to SAP Cloud ERP on IBM Power Virtual Server, it added.
