BATAVIA, NY.–The American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) and the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) recently teamed up to make a donation to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester.
As part of a special amateur racing event held Oct. 4 at Batavia Downs, members of the AHDC and NAADA competed in a pair of races before presenting a $2,500 check to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. AHDC President Anthony Verruso and NAADA President Joe Faraldo were joined by competing drivers for the check presentation.
“We enjoyed having the opportunity to compete in a different location than our usual races,” said Anthony Verruso. “We get the privilege of going to different states and even different countries to race, so we like to give back to those communities when we come to town. We appreciate the hospitality of Batavia Downs and will continue to race for charities wherever we go.”
The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester is a community organization dedicated to eradicating breast and gynecological cancers by providing funding for research and advocacy programs at various legislative levels, which also aim to fund cancer prevention, studying causes and seeking treatments.
As amateur clubs, the AHDC and NAADA do not keep the driver’s share of the wallet during competitions. Instead, the money set aside for drivers is given to different charities with different goals.
