What is AgriStack and why it is important
AgriStack answers a simple yet profound question: how can every farmer – regardless of land size, location or documentation – access rights and services without hassle? The platform does this by creating three standardized, state-specific federated registries that together form a verifiable picture of the farmer, the land and the crop.
· Farmer register: one authenticated identity for every farmer.
· Register of georeferenced village maps — digitized, verified maps of each agricultural plot, geo-referenced from historical revenue maps.
· Crop sown register: field-level seasonal records of what has been sown and where.
This is more than administrative digitization. By replacing fragmented manual processes with real-time, rules-based verification, AgriStack enables governance that is transparent, efficient and auditable.
How AgriStack enables change with great impact
AgriStack is already supporting some of India’s highest volume programs and delivering measurable results. It enables real-time verification of farmers, land and crops and ensures direct benefit transfers reach the right recipients. It has also ensured that insurance claims are more accurate, that MSP purchases are limited to genuine farmers for their land only, that fertilizer subsidies reach only eligible farmers, and that disaster relief is provided proactively and quickly to affected farmers.
Maharashtra flood relief, 2025
During the 2025 Maharashtra floods, AgriStack enabled the state to verify claims and provide relief with unprecedented speed. Within 48 hours of receiving farmers’ claims, the state transferred support to 61.58 lakh farmers and disbursed ₹5,946 crore — a process that previously took months and reached far fewer beneficiaries. This shows how DPI-driven governance can deliver speed, scalability and accuracy when it matters most.
MSP Procurement – Chhattisgarh
In Chhattisgarh, the integration of farmer identity and land verification into procurement workflows marked attempts by non-resident farmers to exploit price differentials. This information protects state resources, ensures MSP benefits reach real farmers and reduces disruptions in regional markets.
Reform of fertilizer subsidies
The distribution of fertilizer has long been sensitive to leakage. Pilots in Madhya Pradesh – involving 1.17 lakh farmers, 490 retailers and over 38,000 tonnes of fertilizer – used identity, land ownership and crop validation to create a responsible pipeline from manufacturer to farmer. Aadhaar-based traceability and allowance calculation reduced diversion and improved transparency.
PM-KISAN integration
PM-KISAN, one of the world’s largest farmer benefit programs, is now tightly integrated with AgriStack. Nearly half of the beneficiaries have been verified and several states now require farmer ID for new registrations. This solves long-standing issues for farmers without mutation or inheritance data and enables proactive enrollment of eligible growers.
The way forward
AgriStack’s ambition extends beyond improving individual schemes. The goal is a cohesive, federated and intelligence-based agricultural ecosystem that supports every farmer at every stage of their journey.
The most important transformations currently taking place include:
1. Inclusion of non-landowning farmers – integrating tenants, sharecroppers, co-owners and FRA patta holders to ensure that no farmer is left out.
2. Federated farmer-centric data sharing – a secure, permission-based layer for authenticated data sharing that eliminates duplication and reduces friction.
3. Predictive and climate-responsive intelligence – integrated datasets powering yield forecasts, climate-adaptive advice and early warning systems for pests, droughts and floods.
4. Personalized field-specific advisory services – hyper-local, data-driven agronomy that helps farmers optimize their inputs and reduce risks.
5. Seamless digital experience – a single, consistent digital identity enabling access to grants, advice, insurance and procurement.
Structural reforms for agricultural governance
AgriStack is not just a technology stack; it is a structural reform of agricultural governance. By anchoring identity, land and crop data in verified, auditable registries, India is building an ecosystem that evolves from reactive support to proactive, personalized service. The result is a system that can deliver benefits faster, reduce leakage, protect state resources and, most importantly, engage everyone whose livelihood depends on agriculture.
