Bigger numbers at AFCON 2025
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has reached its business end and stadium attendances are very encouraging. In previous editions, AFCON often struggled to attract fans, but just like the last tournament, Morocco 2025 told a different story. Supporters have been in attendance in droves, helping the competition set new standards as it continues to push boundaries.
Total attendance exceeded during the group stage 700,000 spectators, a significant increase from the 643,000 recorded during the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast. The opening round of matches attracted 233,674 fans, rising to 274,374 in the second round, before 195,215 spectators attended the final round of group matches.
The most attended match of the tournament so far was Morocco’s group match against Mali, which attracted 63,844 fans. Overall figures underline the attractiveness of the host countries, with Morocco recording the highest average attendance at the tournament with 62,185. Senegal follows, with 41,672 fans attending their group match against DR Congo.
The strong turnout continued in the knockout phase. The semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat it drew a crowd of 65,458 people. Nigeria were again involved in the play-off for third place, which was held at a smaller venue in Casablanca, which still attracted more than 38,000 spectators.
With these figures, the total attendance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is on track to surpass the 1,109,593 of the 2023 tournament, a nod to the growing appeal of the competition and the strength of fan engagement in Morocco.
