Another Bournemouth player, and not Antoine Semenyo, may have just caught the attention of Manchester United scouts during that Monday night eight-goal thriller at Old Trafford.
On what many are already calling the Premier League game of the season, United failed to secure all three points and ultimately settled for a pulsating 4-4 draw against AFC Bournemouth.
United’s transfer goalkeeper Semenyo put in a standout performance, which he topped off with his well-marked goal.
In the aftermath, ties with his services have intensified, with claims suggesting United are now firmly committed to seizing his £65m winter transfer opportunity.
But while Semenyo’s talk dominated the headlines, it now appears he wasn’t the only Bournemouth player to impress United on Monday night. Reports suggest Cherries left-back Adrien Truffert also made a lasting impression.
Truffers left
Truffert was signed from French side Rennes last summer and was nothing short of a revelation at Bournemouth. He has seamlessly replaced Milos Kerkez (who left for Liverpool) in Andoni Iraola’s back four, a transition that many expected would be much more challenging.
The France international is primarily a left back, but equally capable in midfield. He has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water. His revival appears to have caught United’s attention, and after seeing him up close at Old Trafford, Dean Jones, via Team conversationnow claims:
“As for Truffert, the former France international has emerged as a potential target as Amorim looks to strengthen his options at the left-back position.”
LWB struggles
If United were to continue with an attack on Truffert, they would be addressing a glaring weakness.
In addition to problems in midfield, the role of the left full-back has increasingly emerged as a problem area this season.
Patrick Dorgu has struggled to cement his place in Ruben Amorim’s plans, with his inconsistency causing him to be constantly overlooked.
Diogo Dalot has been coming on, but he too has endured difficulties, and it is worth emphasizing that his natural competition is on the other flank, with Amad Diallo for the right full-back position.
Truffert the LWB upgrade
A deal for Truffert could bring some much-needed consistency to United’s left side.
Lauded for his progressive runs, accurate crosses and ruthless work rate, the Bournemouth defender has been praised for his ability to push high and contribute to attacks. qualities that should give United’s left flank the lift it is crying out for.
