Entering enemy territory for their professional opening assignment is no easy feat for a rookie MMA fighter, no matter how much experience they have. In today’s episode of Across the pond, you’ll meet the chessboard’s newest kingmaker, ready to checkmate his opening battle with Cage Warriors and spoil the Irish party on February 21 at Cage Warriors 200 from Dublin’s RDS. An amateur mixed martial artist since December 2017 and representative Urban Kingz MMA under head coach and Cage Warriors veteran Mick Stanton, Elliott McGibbon has a 7-3 record over a 10-match span consisting of three submissions, two knockouts and two decisions. McGibbon has fought for several organizations during his journey as an amateur MMA fighter, including Kingdom Combat Championship and Full Contact Contender. He has spent his entire career in Great Britain and has achieved five of his seven victories within the amateur ranks.

During his Amateur MMA debut at Shinobi MMA 11 Winter Warfare, he faced Mariusz Mikolajewski and then defeated him by decision. McGibbon submitted Emil Sinuk in the first round at Machine MMA 24. He defeated Martin Patterson via TKO in the first round at Almighty Fighting Championship 19. Then defeated McGibbon at FCC 27 Ryan McNally via unanimous decision to score his second decision victory as an amateur. He defeated Calvin Mooney via second-round technical knockout at FCC 34 to earn his second knockout victory as an amateur. McGibbon tapped out Ryan Henassey in round three via rear-naked choke at Kingdom Friday Fight Night 2. He submitted Shane Howard via armbar in the first round at Kingdom Combat Championship 8 to earn the third submission victory of his amateur career. McGibbon also earned his seventh win overall as an amateur mixed martial artist.

He will pick up the horns for his professional MMA debut at Cage Warriors 200 on February 21 Trevor Makengo with a catch weight of 216 pounds. Good luck Elliott!
