Manchester United U21S took it from home on Tuesday evening at Brackley Town in the National League Cup.
The match offered the side of Travis Binnion their first chance to get some points on the board after their opening match at Tamworth was left last month due to an injury to Sekou Kone.
First half
Brackley gave an early mistake from United in the 7th minute.
Rhys Bennett was not aware of the pressure behind him, while he eventually lost the ball to Danny Waldron, who came in and ended by Will Murdock.
Chido Obi seemed to do the same on the other side and won the ball high on the field before he took a snapshot outside the box that forced a good save from the keeper Jonathan Maxted.
Chido Obi came close again in the 20th minute, when he cut from the left before he unleashed an attempt on the goal. The shot was bent and almost colored in the top right corner, but was folded away by Maxted.
In the 24th minute, more sloppy game at the back of United gave an unnecessary angle away from which Brackley then doubled their lead.
Connor Hall, unable to free up the birth, pulled the ball down and turned around to hit the half volley that slid under Murdock, who saw it late when it came through a crowd of bodies.
Bendito Mantato then forced a good save from Maxted later in half, which was a common theme in the night, when Brackley retained their 2-0 lead during the break.
Second half
The second half saw a tactical shift from United, in which the young Red Devils sometimes switched three times to a back with Jacob Devaney who split the middle back to enable Mantato and Jaydan Kamason to play higher on the field.
The movement gave Kamason a lot of joy on the right wing while he hit his marker time and time again. On one occasion, Kamason James Scanlon found in the box that skillfully struck the ball, but could not keep his volley on goal.
It was one -way traffic in the second half, with United the only one who posed a sort of danger.
Chido Obi finally put the ball in the net in the 64th minute, but his party was short -lived.
He stole the ball away from the defender before he finished professionally, but the referee ended the goal for an extremely soft mistake committed by United Striker.
Tyler Fletcher and Gabriele Biancheri attracted more incredible saves from Maxted who was announced a man of the game in St. James’ Park during the night.
It seemed that United could not beat the keeper until deep in injury time, when Devaney went to the Outpost from the corner from Thwaites.
However, it was too late for the U21 team, when Brackley got away with the three points.
United U21S will now put their attention back to the competition, where they will accept Rivals Liverpool on Sunday 21 September.
The side of Binnion has opened the competition with three wins of three, including a victory over Manchester City previous time out.
