Aaron Ramsdale has now signed for Newcastle United.

An official club announcement on Saturday afternoon unveils the news.

The 27 -year -old keeper was previously purchased (for £ 800,000) by Eddie Howe when he was in Bournemouth and then sold three years later (for £ 18.5 million) (for £ 18.5 million).

The official announcement of Newcastle United (see below) only refers to a ‘season-long loan agreement’ for Aaron Ramsdale.

However, all media reports had stated that it would be a loan scheme with the option to buy next summer.

Newcastle United Official announcement – August 2, 2025:

Newcastle United has completed the signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a seasonal loan agreement.

The 27-year-old joins the club from Southampton, where he spent the 2024/25 season after he came to the saints from Arsenal last summer.

His time with the Gunners saw Ramsdale help his team a second place in the Premier League in the 2022/23 campaign, a season in which he made his senior debut in England and was mentioned in the team for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Before he came to Arsenal, Ramsdale started his professional career at Sheffield United before moving to AFC Bournemouth, where Eddie Howe handed him his top-flight debut in 2019. During his career in the Premier League, the goalkeeper made 183 performances and held 41 clean sheets.

When signing for Newcastle United, Ramsdale said: “It is great to be here. I have always enjoyed coming here and I have seen how passionate and loudly the fans could be. I have always liked to play here in St. James’ park – I have not always had the best results, but if the fans come behind you, it is a place.

“Coming to the stadium and seeing it today, it is quite surreal to think that this will be at home for the near future. I am wearing the kit, it has the Nice Champions League badge on the sleeve and I am very happy to be here.

“Working with the manager and his coaching staff were again a great attraction for me. They have already had a great influence on my career and the Gaffer changed me from a man in a professional football player in Bournemouth. He really showed me the ropes, so the manager and his coaching staff were a huge sales argument for me to come here.”

Head coach Eddie Howe said: “Aaron is an exceptional goalkeeper who adds further quality and international experience to our team.

“After I have worked with him before, I know what he can bring us up and next to the field, so we look forward to welcome him to the group.”
