It was in Sardinia that we first noticed it. We took a pack of saltine crackers from the upper cupboards and it was very clear that someone had been chewing for a long time… A mouse in the mobile home while you live in it yourself? Is this reasonable and how do you get rid of it?
A mouse in the camper!
When we saw the chewed cookies, we immediately realized that we had been visited by a mouse in the mobile home, but we thought maybe it would pass. When it comes to mice in mobile homes, we have previously mainly heard about the problem during winter storage, i.e. when you do not live in the vehicle yourself. But do the mice really dare to wreak havoc if you live there?
We were in Sardinia when we saw the gnawed cookies and thought we might have a temporary visitor. Wouldn’t he (she?) come with us on the ferry to the Italian mainland?

The mouse has felt at home
We didn’t attach much importance to the mouse at first, because we actually thought it would disappear. But gradually new evidence emerged. Several times we saw small gnawing holes in the side of the garbage bag. The second time he gnawed the cookie again… More and more often we came back to the camper… to be met by little poop sausages on the carpet!
One day the LED lighting in the kitchen went out. Why that? Well, because the mouse bit it, of course! Peter managed to repair it, but concerns about major damage increased. We started to worry: why won’t the mouse go away…?
A companion for a long time
So the mouse came with us in the camper on the ferry from Sardinia to Naples, and then up through Italy. With us it was all the way around Lake Garda! But how would we get rid of it?

We discovered that we had a ‘sound fear’ in the camper, which was supposed to scare away rats and mice with its high-frequency sound. “Mice escape in seconds,” the ad says. Well, we thought! After all, it’s fun to just chase the mouse away, without killing it.
Every time we were connected to electricity, we plugged in the scarecrow. We can’t say 100 percent that it doesn’t work. All we can say is this: either it doesn’t work, or the mouse in our camper was completely deaf… We ran the noise scare again and again, but the mouse was still there! He happily nibbled on our cookies and had a good time between our pillows.

At home in Stockholm…the mouse is still there!
A month and a half after we left Sardinia, we were home in Stockholm. We started unpacking in the parking lot, and the camper became increasingly empty. But the Sardinian mouse stayed!
So we got rid of the mouse
Now we didn’t have much choice. We went to Biltema and at first thought there might be a trap to catch the mouse alive, but there wasn’t. We bought a very ordinary traditional mousetrap.

We set the trap near the garbage chute, where we saw the mouse had been, and loaded it with delicious Italian cheese. No pacifier! Then we realized that the salty cookies had been a favorite the entire trip. Peter loaded the trap with saltine crackers, which he secured with silicone. Tree! The trap broke and our little companion died immediately…
