To our Rewire community:
When I became a member Newsgroup rewiring Shortly after the 2024 elections, I did so out of a strong belief that independent journalism – and especially journalism that provides accurate information about reproductive rights and justice – is essential to a healthy democracy.
The same forces we’ve seen undermine reproductive freedom that led to the Supreme Court’s decision Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization The decision ending federal abortion protections in 2022 has attacked press freedom in 2025. I see these attacks—on reproductive rights, the press, and beyond—as part of the Trump administration’s broader efforts to dismantle democratic institutions, silence marginalized communities, and limit the right to exist for many people, frankly, in the world.
I’ve spent most of my media career using digital platforms to reach new audiences and build community. But in recent years, I’ve found myself increasingly uncomfortable with the way traditional media has covered the intersectional issues that speak to someone like me: a Black woman of reproductive age. We all know how this can play out in traditional mainstream newsrooms: a shortage of dedicated reporters covering reproductive health; a neglect of how race, class, and geography influence access; an overall lack of expertise on the subject or limited resources; or all of the above.
Newsgroup rewiring is that expertise. We are not just concerned with abortion; we provide essential, intersectional journalism, analysis and commentary that connect reproductive rights to democracy, racial justice, immigration, disability justice, LGBTQ+ rights and more.
The past year as RNGAs Executive Director, I am extremely humbled and proud of the body of work produced by our small but mighty team. We’ve produced in-depth pieces, including this recent story about the devastating effects ICE raids can have on pregnant immigrants and their newborns, and profiled Hope Walz, daughter of former Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.
Our award-winning podcast Tree! Lawyer returned to video for its ninth season (subscribe to our YouTube channel here)! We debuted a brand new interview podcast from Co-Chief Content Officer Imani Gandy called B*tch, listen. And we reimagined it Rewiring‘s newsletters, including the launch of our flagship product, Rewire Weekly.
Today we’re bringing you more of the stories, analysis, and insights that matter most in reproductive justice, in both print and audio formats intentionally designed to meet your news needs.
Our journalism has always been fueled by our community. Thank you for the support you have shown us over the years. We’re constantly fine-tuning our work based on feedback, research, and what readers like you said you’d like to see more of from us, so keep your feedback and messages of support coming.
Journalism is the common thread that connects usespecially in turbulent times like today. My last question to you would be to consider getting one Newsgroup rewiring member! In case you missed it, last month we launched our new membership program. This is not a paywall. Our stories will always be free.
Membership means something deeper: it keeps our journalism independent, protects the truth from disinformation and stops authoritarian movements from reaching reality.
Your contribution keeps our journalism independent, protects the truth from misinformation and ensures our reporting on reproductive justice remains free, fearless and accessible to all.
Thank you for being part of our community.
With gratitude,
Mallory
