MILTON, October 25, 2025 – Meshuggah (Green shoe) took the inside track to victory in the $822,000 (CAD) Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colt & Geldings Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday evening.

Go Dog Go was released from the outside post 10 as the starter car pulled away and crossed to secure the lead into the first corner and through a:26.1 first quarter with Mr Mouton in second and 4-5 choice Emoticon Legacy in third.

Emoticon Legacy, riding a two-race win streak, was making its way down the backstretch and eventually took over the race with a lead of just over a half in :55.1. Scott Zeron, behind the wheel of Meshuggah, had his long shot in sixth place, while Emoticon Legacy continued to roll comfortably at the front.

However, that scenario changed when Super Chapter reached the three-quarter mark seconds before the first in 1:22.1.

Super Chapter took an early lead, while Go Dog Do remained a prominent player looking to overtake its rival. Meshuggah, meanwhile, picked up speed and began taking out enemies, decisively closing along the railing.

It was still Super Chapter who were on top in the final meters to the finish, but Meshuggah kept coming with every step and came to the fore late to record a half-length victory. Super Chapter finished second, giving trainer Marcus Melander and breeder Hanover Shoe Farms a one-two punch, followed by Go Dog Go and Greenma.

MESHUGGAH REPEAT

The final time was 1:50.1, which set a stakes record.

“He usually has pretty tactical speed, but off the rails he’s made mistakes before, so we just tried to get away from where we got away and hope it would work out, and we certainly did,” Zeron said.

On September 27, the bay won the $120,833 final Bluegrass stallion and gelding trotting division in 1:50.1 at The Red Mile. He placed fifth in the Kentucky Futurity, also at Lexington oval, on October 5

“Over the last few starts, both weeks in Lexington, he raced really well when we took the boots off and he actually came into this race in really good shape,” Melander said. “Of course, you know, he needed a trip, but Scotty gave him one. Like I said, given the last two races in Lexington, I’m not that surprised, but a little surprised. Of course.”

Courant Inc., the colt’s owner, purchased the son of Green shoe-Starita for $120,000 (hip #247) at the 2023 Lexington Selected Sale. Originally selling under the name Starquake Hanover, Courant’s Anders Strom renamed it after the Swedish extreme metal band Meshuggah (the Yiddish word for crazy).

Meshuggah debuted in a PA All-Stars split at Pocono and placed second, losing by just a neck in 1:57.2. He won a leg and the final of the 2024 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and finished third in that year’s Mohawk Million.

He paid $127.10 for his Breeders Crown win.
