Banner #1 – Hoosiers defeat Marian in the opening game of the exhibition

Under new IU head coach Darian DeVries, Hoosier fans were promised a more modern offense that emphasizes the three-point shot. Mission accomplished in the exhibition opener.

Although it was only an exhibition game against the overmatched Marian, the proof was there as the Hoosiers went 15-for-30 from downtown with consistent ball movement. Tucker DeVries and Trent Sisley each scored 23 points while combining for nine triples. The final was 107-46, with the attack running freely for the entire 40 minutes. This is despite injuries at the start of the season that have limited the squad’s depth.

Then DeVries spoke, Ryan Corazza wrote a Minute After, Alex Bozich wrote Five Takeaways, while Josh Pos put together a column about Indiana’s emphasis on the 3-pointer.

After improving their playoff rankings and rising to No. 3 in the AP Poll, IU Football’s schedule lightened up with a homecoming date against Michigan State. The Hoosiers made it easy for the Spartans, winning 38-13. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza continued to improve both his Heisman candidacy and his draft stock by throwing four touchdowns, including two to WR Elijah Sarratt. At 7-0, the Hoosiers host UCLA next weekend.

There was also speculation off the field that head coach Curt Cignetti might like to leave Indiana for another job. However, this was put to bed when he agreed to a new contract that pays him more than $11 million per season.
