3 positives and 3 negatives to get from Newcastle 1 wolves 0

Newcastle 1 Wolves 0 ended on Saturday.

For each match we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives after the game.

A lot to talk about after this.

On this occasion it is ‘Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey …’:

Positive

First victory

It was of vital importance that today we all received the points.

Not beautiful, but we did enough against a spicy Wolves side that brought the game to us early and sometimes made it difficult.

Woltemade not, be, be

Great to see that Big Nick comes from the goal.

Scoring the winning goal on your debut must be a mix of excavation and relief.

I thought he looked neat until he no longer had steam after the hour.

I also saw him half an hour after the game ended at Sky Sports News and he came across very well.

Barcelona afterwards

Now only five days before the Spanish champions enter the city.

We have to play better, that’s for sure. It will be really special under the lights on Thursday evening.

Negatives

Is Trippier’s time up?

I thought Kieran Trippier was bad today, transfers in abundance and caught too much from position to my taste.

Probably one of our biggest signing sessions in the acquisition era and I thought he was a moth at Wembley, but unfortunately he now looks a shadow of his former self.

Power in depth?

A lot of depth has been made of our team, but it did not feel so when Osula and Willock entered the fight this afternoon, to replace Woltemade and Joelinton at 65 minutes.

We need Wissa and Ramsey from the Pronto treatment table.

Anxious endgame!

My fear levels rose in the last quarter of an hour.

We looked incoherent and did not manage to keep it in the ball, so that wolves could dominate the possession and although they have not made anything of real remark, a better side would have done.
