Boston University Women’s Hockey (0-0, 0-0 Hockey East) opened the season on Friday evening in Walter Brown Arena with a 4-4 exhibition profit (2-0) at the Concordia Stingers.

Welcke-Welcke-Walsh Carried Momentum Into Tonight.
Part of BU’s Postseason -increase in a 6th Hockey East title came from this line. This trio achieved 14 points about a wingspan of four play -off games. That chemistry was certainly in tonight’s game.
Luisa Welcke opened the score for the terriers of a loose puck created by her sister, Lilli and her net at the front. It is a good sign to see that the line was already used to each other, especially seeing how much they dominated the property and dominated well.
“Their styles certainly complement each other, I think Riley (Walsh) even plays with more confidence, which is exciting,” said head coach Tara Watchorn, “they are there and when we can hunt it and get it back and it’s on their sticks, we are happy.”
It is also important to note that this line was good for half of all shots (53%) made by the terriers in this game. BU has fired 34 shots on Jordyn Verbeek from Concordia, and the WWW line was good for 18 of them.
Jackie Wright was in the spotlight in the fold for BU.
All three goalkeepers on the Terrian schedule saw Ice Age in this exhibition game. Junior Mari Petersen played the first, followed by graduated transfer Michelle Pasienyk in the second and the third was called by first -year Jackie Wright.
“For many different reasons, we made a conscious decision to play all three,” said Watchorn, “because we have three great goalkeepers and let’s see where we are.”
Petersen saw three shots in the first, but admitted a Concordia Power Play goal that opened the score. After they had taken a lead of two goals, the Terriers experienced bad puck happiness, which led to Concordia that late in the second union.
In the run -up to the exhibition Watchorn emphasized her first -year goalkeeper to a high degree of her game between the pipes.
“Jackie in Net, I know she’s our third, but she definitely pushes the pace in practice,” she said in a midweek video call, “which is really cool to see.”
The stingers pressed a tie and almost took the fotton totals in the third period. Wright stood on her head, although a goal gave the game to extension.
Nevertheless, the resident of Walpole finished with a .947 savings percentage, which stopped 18 of 19 shots between the third and overtime frames. Apart from that, she was the key in her two shootout stops on Concordia to raise BU to a victory.
The future feels fresh.
Four first -year students fell on the Statblad: Vooruit Anežka čabelová, Mia Vergilii, Lexie Bertelsen and defender Lucy Thiessen.
“We realized that we added a lot of talent and speed to this group,” Watchorn said.
The D-core was an area to pay attention to coming in the exhibition, given the majority of the core of last season graduating. Thiessen stepped up and proved himself as a two -way defender who made four shots, two of which were on the net.
Thiessen was constantly open at the top of the circle, ready to tear one-timers and call the puck. Counting a goal or help is undoubtedly in its future.
Čabelová and Vergilii showed grit on the pre -check, and both were met in the second period.
Choosing a freshman to play in their first collegial hockey match to make a shootout attempt, not most coaches would be his first choice. Watchorn has definitely made the right one. Bertelsen achieved the victory for BU that scored the overtime winner.
“I saw her try to subtract that movement this morning, and it didn’t go in this morning, but it looked assertive,” Watchorn said about Bertelsen’s shot. “It looked like something that she did a lot. Sometimes in a pressing moment … Having a go-to-moving is the best way to start.”
The best way to start for Bertelsen was the best way to end with a victory to open the 2025-26 season for the terriers.
