Clayton JardineA former Merrimack forward, goes back home. The 34-year-old was hired as an assistant coach by the Red Deer rebels of the Western Hockey League (WHL).
Jardine played four seasons on Merrimack from 2011 to 2015 before he started his coaching career at the Kinderley Klippers (SJHL) in 2015. Over the years he served as a head coach for both the clippers and the Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL), and he returned to Kindersley in 2023 as the team of the team. He also spent a season behind the bank at New England College as an assistant.
In addition to his duties in the regular season, Jardine Canada West represented as an assistant coach at the World Junior A Challenge in both 2019 and 2022.
A resident of Lacombe, Alberta – only 30 minutes north of Red Deer – Jardine played his AAA hockey for the Red Deer Chiefs before he continued to Junior and NCAA Hockey.
“I am excited to participate in the great organization I grew up during my youth,” Jardine said in a team release. “It was 10 years of coaching day in day out in the hope that one day I could become a member of the rebels.”
